According to Caught Offside, RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande is at the centre of a Premier League battle between Spurs, Manchester United and Liverpool, with the Red Devils ostensibly in the lead after making first contact.

Currently at AFCON with Ivory Coast, the 19-year-old has established himself as one of Europe’s brightest talents this season, and he would cost a whopping 100m (£87m) to prise away from Germany.

This, of course, would place him as Tottenham’s club-record signing, above the £65m forked out for Dominic Solanke, but the pointers argue it would be worth the punt.

Why Diomande would become a superstar at Spurs

Tottenham have failed to get their new era off to a flyer, with Frank under intense pressure following months of poor results and even poorer performances.

Tottenham need change, and for that, they need a catalyst. Diomande could be that catalyst, and thus, he could even rival Bukayo Saka as north London’s new starboy.

Saka, of course, is one of the best wingers in the Premier League, and he’s been the driving force behind Arsenal’s rise in Mikel Arteta’s system.

A silky and stylish winger, the Three Lions star is also combative and as physical as they come, differentiating him from other gifted wide forwards.

Most other forwards, in any case. Someone like Diomande has all the tools to emulate him and then some.

The fleet-footed Ivorian only joined Leipzig from Leganes last summer, and he has taken to the Bundesliga with ease, posting seven goals and three assists from 16 matches in all competitions before jetting off to Morocco with his nation.

That’s a prodigious level of performance that only a few, such as Saka for the Gunners, can confidently claim they boasted at an early age.

Diomande’s pace mixes with power and a fearlessness that has allowed him to score and assist prolifically. Saka offers such a style of play, everything so well weighted, be it his passing or his carrying.

Most would argue that Diomande is still evolving as a professional, but that’s interesting to consider when he already ranks so strongly against Arsenal’s main man.

As you can see, he outstrips the England man across most metrics, and though translation to English football can be rocky for newcomers, it still bodes well for him.

Hailed as a “generational talent” by journalist Bence Bocsak, Diomande has the world at his feet, and while he’s young and still learning the tricks of the trade in Germany, there’s no question that he’s proven himself capable of surviving and thriving in the Premier League.

In time, he might just come to leapfrog Saka as London’s finest. Tottenham just need to ensure he does so in a Lilywhite shirt.
